Fire Engine Co. 23 Youth Arts Center Los Angeles, CA
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places this project for the City of Los Angeles Bureau of Engineering is a conversion of the historic Engine Company 23 Fire Station in downtown Los Angeles into a Youth Arts Center. The original commercial district fire station was completed in 1910 and operated with horse drawn fire engines until 1915. At the time of construction, it was one of the most elaborate and advanced fire stations in the country. The new building will contain a flexible gallery/ exhibit space in the historic apparatus bay and classrooms for arts programming on the second and third floor. The project requires extensive structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing renovations. All of this had to be achieved while preserving the historical finishes of the building. This project is currently in construction and due to finish in 2021.
