St. Augustine Master Plan
The need to address increasingly un-affordable housing has generated the opportunity to envision this site as a model and potential solution towards a “relief valve” by providing upwards of 400 housing units for mixed-income levels. Infill development, particularly the supply of afford-able housing, has not kept pace with the demand for regional living driven by desirable quality of life and public school system in St. Johns County. The project’s eighty-acre site has been discussed over the last year and a half in the city’s need to address the affordable housing crisis. Development within the city and county has been characterized by ad hoc projects that have not been able to meet demand for workforce and affordable housing needs. No overarching vision guides the discussion and a lack of a county-wide housing authority has placed great pressure on the City Commission to take action.
